Your Low Back - Lumbar Spine
Neural Foramen
Nerves travel up and down the spine between connecting vertebrae via the
spinal canal. The neural foramen acts as an exit point for the nerves
to ultimately communicate with the brain, which in turn communicates
through the nerve roots running throughout the body.
Spinal Cord
The
spinal cord, a column of millions of nerve fibers that run through
your spinal canal, extends from the brain to the lower back. It then
forms different groups of fibers which connect nerves to the lower
half of the body. The spinal cord is covered by a protective membrane
called the dura mater. The dura
mater forms around the spinal cord and nerves, trapping in spinal fluid
that surrounds the cord.
